Extra time granted for new motorcycle test
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has announced a
delay
of seven months to the introduction of the new practical
motorcycle test, originally scheduled for September 29,
2008.
The move comes after the Agency considered
representations from the Motorcycle Industry Association
(MCIA), the Motorcycle Rider Training Association (MRTA)
and other motorcycle interests.
The new
implementation date will now be Monday, April 27th, 2009.
What does it mean? The new Test will now
be done in two parts, an off road section, and an on
road section. The off road section will take about 10
minutes and will consist of manoeuvres such as the 'U'
turn, Emergency stop, Collision avoidance exercise,
slalom, and a few more similar exercises, this section
must be passed before you take the 40 minute road ride.
It is unlikely that you will be able to take these two
parts of the Test on the same day. You will need to have
passed a Motorcycle theory test before doing the
practical test. The New Test centre is on the HMS
Daedalus site at Lee on Solent.
